The oil field is snatching up jobs.
This week a 2 day recruiting event is introducing high students to the career opportunities in agronomy.
Bismarck State College is hosting the first summer Ag academy.
Giving students a taste of an agronomy major before registering for classes.
These future employees are learning about the latest industry technology---riding on sprayers, using GPS units and learning about satellites.
(BOBBI BINGEMAN / BSC Ag Instructor) "The agronomy industry is really, really short of a workforce, so we have some pretty aggressive managers that came to the table and said how do we recruit more young people? What we are really seeing at the college level is 4 times as many internship and job opportunities as we have graduates. So we have a tremendous amount of room to bring people into our industry."
Bingeman says the industry demand is so high that the school expects to be working to recruit more agronomy students for the next 15-20 years.
