Dickinson Opens Up 36 Affordable Housing Units

Posted: Updated:

Thirty-six affordable housing town homes are now open for tenants in Dickinson.
This is a step toward alleviating the high cost of housing in the booming oil region.

Funds from the USDA were used to help build the multi million dollar project, which may offer cheaper housing options.
There's been a drought in housing after a tornado ripped through the city three years ago--and an oil boom exploded in the southwest region.

(Dennis Johnson/Mayor of Dickinson) "Dickinson has great need for housing and tremendous need for affordable housing so I would expect that we're going to see this type of development."

Federal and state agencies worked together with private enterprises and local businesses to help get the project done.
Jasper Schneider from USDA rural development says these two and three bedroom townhomes are key to the long term growth of Dickinson.

(Jasper Schneider/ USDA Rural Development) "It's so important that we deliver housing for everybody not just temporary workers but people that work in service sectors people that ultimately make the community grow and stick."
