Minot residents can look forward to a new shopping development making its way to the area.
Marketplace Foods held a ground breaking ceremony today on the Northwest corner of 16th Street Northwest and 21st Avenue Northwest where a new retail and residential space will be built.
The new retail establishment will be called the North Hill Center.
The Supermarket will share the retail space with a bank, a clinic, a pharmacy, eating establishments, and retail stores.
Housing will also be available--92 apartment units and 18 twin homes will be built on top of the stores.
Marketplace has projected a traffic count of 21,000 customers a week.
The President of Marketplace Foods, Keith Johanneson says Minot's flood helped spur on the idea for another grocery store.
(Keith Johanneson, President-Marketplace Foods)"During the flood we recognized the need for services up on North Hill and we had an overwhelming response during our supermarket in a tent. Those calls kept coming for many months after that so we decided to see if we could pursue another opportunity."
The new Marketplace building will be over 52,000 square feet and is expected to be complete by August, 2013.
