Search teams head out this morning to continue the search for a missing hiker in the badlands...

48-year-old Dan Olszewski of Virginia has been missing since leaving for a day hike Sunday morning.

Olszewski was reported missing Monday morning and the search began.

Crews left again at 8:30 this morning concentrating their efforts in the South Unit of the park on the west side of the Little Missouri River in wild terrain.

This is his car parked near a trail west of Medora. You can see traffic on I-94 in the background.

Eileen Andes with Theodore Roosevelt National Park says it's possible Olszewski is still alive.

Andes says he was well prepared and even told park staff where he was headed.

We've done foot searches of all of the trails of the park. Searchers have also gone in on horseback, we have used aircraft from the North Dakota Highway Patrol, we have had a helicopter today from Minot Air Force Base, and some local citizens horseback riders who know the area very well have helped us, and it's a multi-agency effort," says Eileen Andes of Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

About 20 searchers are on foot and horseback searching the back country of the park.

Andres says Olszewski has been working in North Dakota.

Some history is worth repeating -- not so, when it comes to 2011 and historic water. In recent memory, the Mighty Missouri has raged -- in 2009, and again, in 2011.  Both times, she unleashed her fury
