Planning is underway to improve Minot's public transportation system for people with disabilities
The Accessible Transportation Coalitions Initiative is a program offered by Easter Seals Project Action.
Minot is one of ten cities across the U.S. selected to participate in the project geared toward improving accessibility within the transportation system.
The two-day event involved ESPA staff members and city officials sitting down together to develop an action plan to create more transportation options.
Minot City Transit Superintendent, Brian Horinka, say's the city's expansion is among the top factors affecting the availability of public transportation.
(Brian Horinka, Minot City Transit Superintendent)"A lot of it is the growth in population and the expansion of the community and having the transportation systems have the ability to keep up with that growth. Our problems in finding drivers and employees, that we can put more assets out on the road."
The action plan developed over the course of the event will be in effect for the next 12 months.
