Not-So-Newlywed Game

Posted: Updated:

The Senior Day Festival kicked off this morning at the State Fair Center.
There were plenty of booths for people to browse through and activities happening all afternoon.
Today I got to catch up with four couples who competed in a competition to see who could remember the most from their early days of marriage.

(Darrell Williams, Show Host)"Ladies and Gentleman welcome!"
It was a new spin on a classic TV gameshow.
The show host had a list of questions
(Darrell Williams, Show Host)"Where and when was your first date?"
A familiar tune rang through the speakers...
But the stars of the show...were not what you would call newlyweds.
(Darrell Williams, Show Host)"What's the best dish your wife cooks?"
The Not-so-newlywed game is a competition for couples who have been married for at least 35 years.
All four couples competed to see who could remember the most from the early days of marriage.
Some memories were almost impossible to forget.
(Darrell Williams, Show Host)"She had her veil on backwards."
(Darrell Williams, Show Host)"Hold it up dear.  Wedding ring!"
And some memories were not so easy to recall.
"He went for the trip and the cruise, she settled for the dancing.  That one's not going to work."
After all of the couples took a stroll through memory lane a winning team was chosen.
(Duane and Lois Schmeichel, Game Contestants)"We've never done anything like this before.  And we've been together for quite a while so we kind of know a little bit about at each other."
It was a well-deserved victory.
(Duan and Lois Schmeichel, Game Contestants)"We worked many years to get here."
From the Fairgrounds, Kelli Volk, KX News.

The winning couple won a trip to Medora.
