Livestock Play Big Role at Fair

Posted: Updated:

Another State Fair is about to wrap up...and in the livestock barns, it has been another successful and busy one.
Perry Olson takes us there to find out what gets these kids -- and their parents -- up early each and every day of the fair.

Each morning, while much of the fairgrounds sits still...the livestock barns are 180 degrees from that.

(Ross Stanley - Bismarck) "It really is what the fair is meant to be for me at least..."

Ross Stanley is preparing for another show...he's had plenty over the years...

(Ross Stanley - Bismarck) "I have been here for pretty much all my life.  Parents brought me when I was a kid and showed goats and stuff..."

Jessica Schuler used to take part in this part of the fair...now...it is her daughter, 10 year old Teralyn...

(Jessica Schuler - North of Stanley) "I love that pride...the ownership that she takes in it.  She knows what she is doing and has done her research.  She works just as hard as everyone else does so yes it is great."

A long stay of more than a week is getting close to ending...but Jessica wouldn't have it any other way...she knows how important this yearly ritual is...

(Jessica Schuler - North of Stanley) "I feel that it is integral.  It is something that has to be done, especially if we are going to continue the 4H and FFA programs there needs to be some sort of an end goal for the kids and this is it."

The end goal for those older...and younger too...

(Jessica Schuler - North of Stanley) "Seeing the looks on the faces and the hard work that they put into it...I love it!"

At the livestock barns early Friday -- Perry Olson, KX News.
