Waylon Hicks
The attorney for a man accused of murder of a former marine, says Waylon Hicks acted in self defense.
Hicks was in U.S. federal court in Bismarck this morning for a probable cause and detention hearing.
Hicks is charged with second degree murder for the death of 30 year old Jeremiah Sage of Halliday.
Authorities say Hicks has admitted to stabbing Sage and slashing his throat.
The act happened July 20th at the New Town marina.
Hicks claims Sage made sexual advances at him.
Hicks' defense attorney says she plans to pursue self defense as the case moves toward trial.
She says Hicks called law enforcement himself and cooperated with authorities.
Judge Miller says he questions Hicks' story.
Sage's body was found inside his burning vehicle.
Authorities say the entire truck was on fire when they arrived on the scene. It was so hot, even the tires were melted.
The State Fire Marshall's office is investigating the cause of the fire.
Judge Miller says the fire sounds suspicious, like it was intentionally set.
Hicks will remain in custody until his trial.
Sage was a U.S. Marine who served two tour of duties in Iraq.
