Smoke Free North Dakota Submits Petition

Posted: Updated:

Bismarck, Fargo and Grand Forks have already implemented no smoking in Bars within city limits.
Supporters who want to ban smoking in Bars--across the state--submitted petitions today to put a smoking ban measure on the Ballot in November.
Secretary of State Al Jaeger still must review and approve the submitted petitions before it goes on the ballot.
Volunteers for Smoke Free North Dakota nearly doubled the number of signatures required to get the measure on the ballot... they collected more than twenty-one thousand signatures.
According to a 2010 study of North Dakota residents--over 70 percent of people who responded supported a law to elimanate tobacco smoke from indoor work places.
Smoke Free North Dakota still has work to do if it wants to get a favorable vote in November.
(Chelsey Matter/Smoke-Free North Dakota)"We have about 97 days until election day so we'll be out continuing to educate the public on this very important issue and getting support gathering more support along the way."
The law would also ban smoking in hotel rooms along with banning electronic cigarettes.
