Retired Pastor Speaks About Prostitution and Sex Industry

Posted: Updated:

As the wealth of the oil industry seeps into the state so does an influx of crime and social issues.

There have been a number of recent prostitution arrests in oil country, and one man is speaking out.

Retired pastor Al Erickson is speaking from a different kind of pulpit.

Instead of spreading the word of the Lord, he is talking about the harsh realities of the sex industry.

"I'm probably one of the only people in the country who has worked with people in pimping, who were in strip clubs, I've learned a lot." says Erickson.

Al is sharing his expertise with several domestic violence and sexual assault service providers, to get involved with what's happening in North Dakota.

"Where you've got money, where you've got people coming in, especially men away from their families, the pimping operations say whoah, we've got to get our girls up there."

He's also reaching out to parents and grandparents.

"My message right now is getting back to parents and grandparents, getting to the top of the cliff before being trapped, what can you do that would actually prepare your kids so they wouldn't get in these situations." says Erickson.

Some history is worth repeating -- not so, when it comes to 2011 and historic water. In recent memory, the Mighty Missouri has raged -- in 2009, and again, in 2011.  Both times, she unleashed her fury
