High school football began this afternoon.
After making it to the championship game last season, Century is not satisfied with taking second.
The Patriots have 29 seniors back and ready to make it back to the big game.
Zach Hanley has more from the Patriots first practice.
(Zach Hanley / KX Sports) "Football is back at Century High. And for Head Coach Ron Wingenbach and the rest of the Patriots the excitement of the first day never fades away."
(Ron Wingenbach / Century's Head Football Coach) "This is the 29th opening day for me and it's no different than the first one. And so I really look forward to that, the kids are excited, it's great to be back out here on the field."
(Dylan Leutz / Patriots Senior Running Back) "That brand new excitement coming in knowing it's your last year. Coming in going to give everything you have and to come back on the first day just gets your blood boiling again."
(Zach Hanley / KX Sports) "That blood boiling feeling is shared by 28 other seniors, that know, this is their last chance at a title."
(Ron Wingenbach / Century's Head Football Coach) "We've got a great bunch of seniors. They've kind of been through the wars the last couple years as sophomores and juniors, so they kind of know the expectations and what it's all about."
(Zach Hanley / KX Sports) "Last year the Patriots made it to the Triple A title game, but lost 21 to 3 to their cross town rivals, the Bismarck Demons. This season it's simple for CHS, get back to the Fargodome and win."
(Dylan Leutz / Patriots Senior Running Back) "It was a big huge disappointment for the state game and you want to try your absolute best to get to the top again."
(Ron Wingenbach / Century's Head Football Coach) "They all understand what it takes to get to that state championship game. Our goals certainly haven't changed. It's a challenge. A challenge every year, new body's come in, new expectations. So it's a matter of combining all of those expectations and really take one foot forward at a time. I think with this group if we can do that, we'll be pretty successful."
(Zach Hanley / KX Sports) "At CHS with the Patriots, Zach Hanley KX Sports."
Century travels to Fargo South for their first game of the year.
The Patriots at 5 PM, they beat South twice last year.
