New Superintendent in Velva

New Superintendent in Velva

Posted: Updated:

The new school year begins next week at some schools across North Dakota.
In Velva, the start date is the following week - August 23rd.
And the year will begin with new leadership at the school.
Ryan Hardy is the new high school principal.

And Steve Swiontek swan-tek is finishing his first week on the job as interim superintendent.
Swiontek is stepping in as a 4-and-a-half million dollar remodeling and expansion project is nearing an end.
He says taking over at such an exciting time is a nice perk for the new job.
But he says at its core, the job of superintendent is the same at any school district - even when it's only scheduled to be a one-year position.

(Steve Swiontek, Velva Superintendent) "You try to accomplish the same thing a regular superintendent would do.  Leadership of the district, providing the best education possible to students, and being a resource to the teachers and administration here at the school.  At the same time, you work with parents to make sure their children get the best education possible."

Swiontek came to Velva after retiring from his superintendent position in Devils Lake.
He says he was only retired for a couple of weeks when he got the call asking him to come to Velva.
