The City of Dickinson has seen a boost in tourism--a boom in oil production--and now a growth in Hotel construction.
This will allow people more options when looking for a place to stop-- and as Jon Schaeffer tells us, it might also help other hotels in the area.As you look around the Oil Booming Western City of Dickinson-- you'll see construction of housing including large hotels.
(Kessel/Dix City Administrator)"Well we've seen a significant increase in the number of hotels in Dickinson over the last three years the number of rooms available has almost doubled in town and we still have more that are being planned that have announced that their coming to town. I think 5 or 6 have announced that they're continuing to start construction and planning to come into town."
In 2011-- Dickinson had 2 new hotels with 176 rooms total. In 2012-- they have already built 3 more new hotels with almost 330 rooms total--and they're still building. Terry Thiel--with Dickinson CVB says it will help with oil related occupants and tourist traffic.
(Terry Thiel/ Dickinson CVB)"This is going to give more options to people as they're traveling. We still tell them to pre-plan we'll continue to do that. Um make your plans ahead of time and we have more options coming up with more properties."
As competition moves in for the current hotels-- Dominic Goodman--a manager at the Ramada-- is embracing the new options.
(Dominic Goodman/ Manager at Ramada) "With us having the only meeting space and stuff the convention the full service hotel I feel like the competition will play more of an asset to the community as well as to our hotel because we will be able to host larger conventions which attract in more people."
In the end-- Dominic feels the new hotels will continue to bring in more people to the city of Dickinson and make every hotel work harder.
(Dominic Goodman)"Like i said about competition it brings development, it helps other hotels to boost their level of operation too."
Goodman says that before this oil boom the hotel was operating at seventy percent occupancy on a good day- now it is at ninety-eight percent. He says most of those rooms are taken by someone working an oil-related job.
