Today was the day families and friends of 160 North Dakota soldiers have been waiting for.
Members of the National Guard's 188th Engineer Company flew in to Hector Field after a year-long deployment to Kuwait.
The soldiers hail from all over the state, but serve in a unit based in Wahpeton and Oakes.
For some, the days leading up to their return home were filled with anticipation and anxiety.
"Your mind is so active you can't really sleep. So, yeah, that just kind of makes it worse. But yeah, the last couple of days, really tough. But it makes it worth it once you actually get here and see your family," said Spc. Mitchell Kraft of Mandan.
The soldiers completed several construction projects in Kuwait.
