Business Beat - AUGUST 23

Posted: Updated:

At a cost of about a half million dollars, North Hill Bowl in Minot has made some major changes, that will enhance the bowling game in Minot -- and perhaps increase scores.  Rory Selk with North Hill Bowl says gone now are the old wood lanes, replaced with new synthetic technology that bowlers will enjoy.

(Rory Selk - North Hill Bowl) "We had wood lanes before and we thought everybody is going to synthetic, national tournaments use them, so we thought we should make the change and give our bowlers the same advantage.  The improvement in the lanes will improve bowlers in Minot."

The changes come at a great time -- bowling in Minot is booming with just about everything else, so making the experience better just made sense...

(Rory Selk - North Hill Bowl) "With the influx of people in Minot with oil and military, we have seen increases in open bowling.  We have seen league play up every year as well.  Nationally, bowling is down, but in Minot it has been phenomenal the last few years."

The scoring system also has seen a make-over as well at North Hill Bowl that has been in Minot for 55 years.

A new diner option in Minot is open -- Montana Mike's has officially opened on South Broadway near Wal-Mart.  Montana Mike's is a steakhouse similar to Texas Roadhouse with a location in Mandan as well.

And sharing a parking lot with Montana Mike's, inside the Willow Creek Crossing mall, a Verizon Wireless location has opened up as well.

With Business Beat, I'm Perry Olson.
