Dozens of Ward County homeowners waiting for a check to complete their home buyouts should soon be done waiting.
The Ward County Commission held a special meeting today to finalize the request for state funds for the buyouts.
That means the first round of buyouts - about three dozen homes - could be paid out by the end of the month.
Ward County Highway Engineer Dana Larsen has been deeply involved in the process and says there are five properties for which the paperwork is basically finished.
He says they could be getting their checks within about two week - assuming there are no new roadblocks in the process.
(Dana Larsen, Ward Co. Highway Engineer) "By the time the funds come in and the title work is all done, it will hopefully be within the next couple of weeks. To be honest the first couple will probably determine that timeline and when we get a pattern established we'll be able to give a better time frame from the time of a request to the time of the closing when people can be moving on."
There are nearly 90 properties in Ward County that have been identified for buyouts, although not all of the homeowners have agreed to have their property sold.
Money for the buyouts is paid 75% by the state and 25% by the county.
