Today another milestone was reached in the 55th Street Northeast Bridge project.
450 cubic yards of concrete was poured to form the first of three decks that make up the driving surface of the new eleven-hundred-foot-long bridge.
The concrete poured today will be covered for two weeks with wet strips of burlap as part of the curing process....
and the wind this afternoon made that particular task at hand a little more challenging for the Ames Construction crew.
Project Engineer Jeff McElwain says the project is over the half way mark to being complete and hopes to have all three decks poured before this winter --weather permitting.
(Jeff McElwain, Project Engineer, 55th Street Northeast Bypass/Grade Separation Project) "We are probably at about 70 percent once we get this deck poured on here. We are all very to see the first deck pour here. It is another big milestone on the project. We can't wait until the end of September to do the next one."
The project is scheduled to be complete late spring or early summer of next year.
