As homes are being rebuilt in the valley, and new homes being added in and around the Minot, there's a flurry of yard activity that is going along with it.
The Minot Forestry Department is stepping up to help people out who are looking for wood chippings and wood mulch.
As the department has been cutting down dead trees in parks and along the boulevards they've been chipping a good portion of it and piling it at their headquarters.
Brian Johnson says the chippings are on a first come, first service basis.
He says the recycled trees can go a long way with helping a newly seeded lawn and landscaping.
(Brian Johnson, Minot Forestry Department) "They are absolutely perfect for putting around your trees, your shrub beds, adding to your garden, there's a lot of benefit that go along with that, we retention. It holds moisture in, it's kind of a blanket for the winter time, it keeps those little roots nice and warm and keeps them warm during the summer."
Johnson says people can pick up the wood chippings during regular business hours at their office at 300 14th Street northeast.
You can also call ahead to have a pile put outside their fence for pickup after hours.
That number is 857-4178.
