Group Files Lawsuit to Preserve McLean County Courthouse

Posted:

The fight to save the old McLean County Courthouse is headed to court.

A group dedicated to preserving the building has filed a lawsuit in South Central District Court.

It names the McLean County Board of Commissioners as defendants.

Dennis Kostis the spokesman for The McLean County Heritage Preservation Foundation.

He says they're asking for a judge to grant an immediate injunction to stop further demolition.

"The courthouse is safe, the historic courthouse means a lot to the pioneer families, it's a monument to our pioneer families. We want the commish to prevent them from turning this historic building into a parking lot which there plans are to do that," says Dennis Kost with The McLean County Heritage Preservation Foundation.

Kost says his group doesn't believe there are any issues with health and safety.

As far as financial concerns, he says the space could be rented out for offices--and that using the space would save taxpayers a half million to a million dollars to tear down.
