Some residents of Bucyrus and Hettinger speculate--and have concerns--the fire COULD have been started by careless hunters. Again, the cause has not been determined at this time.
But the State Game and Fish Department is sharing this reminder--there are hunting restrictions in some recreational areas because of how dry the conditions are.
When the fire index reaches the extreme category - open burring, such as campfires are not allowed. Plus, smoking is restricted to inside vehicles and off-road vehicles travel is prohibited--with a few exceptions.
"But in addition, there are a lot of counties across north Dakota that have put additional fire bans. We want hunters to be aware of that," said Greg Link with North Dakota Game and Fish.
Greg Link says it could help to spread the word to hunters coming from out of state who may not know how dry much of the state has been.
