'Proudly serving those who have served.'
That's the motto behind the first 'Veterans Stand Down' event today.
Minot Homeless Coalition Director Mac McLeod says the number of homeless veterans in North Dakota is staggering.
Today at the Armed Forces Reserve Center, a number of resources were available under one roof --- from the VA in Fargo to local veterans affairs, health care and housing assistance.
(Susan Ogurek, North Central Veterans Stand Down) "There are things that happen to veterans while they're in the service that it is difficult to talk to someone about so this is an opportunity to talk to someone who is also a veteran and maybe just meet with some veterans they haven't seen in a while to get reconnected."
Coordinators of 'Veterans Stand Down' hope to make it an annual event.
