It's been two days since a fire nearly burned the entire town of Bucyrus, while the fire is contained and the winds have died down, those who lost everything are picking up the pieces of what's left.
Mike and Evelyn Krug have called the small town of Bucyrus home for 44 years, while their house might be a complete lost, the memories made in this home will never be forgotten.
"We just loved this place, because we had a covered patio here on the front, east side, that's where you want a patio we had huge trees you know, we'd sit out here in the morning and drink our coffee," Mike Krug said.
Mike and Evelyn's son and daughter in law are helping them salvage what's left of the 44 years of memories, including Evelyn's collection of rocks.
"Evelyn said there's nothing really left to save except her rocks, so we decided to come out here with the horse trailer and decided we'll pick up anything she wanted," Lynne Krug said.
But some items aren't able to be salvaged, like this Buick Park Avenue, that Mike worked so hard to fix up.
"I love Park Avenues, and I just dolled it up, it had chrome, I always wanted to do that for myself and now I had time to do it, and we never got it out of here," Mike said.
Right behind the Park Avenue sits the Krug's camper that they would haul down south and live in during the winter months.
"Still can't believe it, still can't believe it, it's all gone," Mike said.
The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time.
A relief fund has been set up for residents of Bucyrus.
Dakota Plains Federal Credit Union in Hettinger has set up a fund, and also has established a $50,000 pool from which to make low-interest loans to fire victims.
