Historic Cemetery Tour

Posted: Updated:

Many people drive past it everyday but they may not realize the kind of history the First Lutheran Church Cemetery holds.
This afternoon, the MSU History Club hosted the third annual Cemetery Tour where many prominent Minot area pioneers are buried such as Erik Ramstad and Herb Parker.
Preservation classes led students to the idea of hosting tours to the public which included a history of the cemetery --which was founded in 1898 by Erik Ramstad-- along with stories of the prominent citizens who were laid to rest here.
Students of the History Club were eager to share the deep rooted history this cemetery has in Minot.

(Misty Newmiller, Secretary, Minot State University History Club) "It's a big part of Minot's history as well as MSU's history because had it not been for Erik Ramstad there wouldn't be Minot. There also would not be MSU since he gave the land for that as well."

The MSU History Club hopes to raise funds for improvements to the security of the cemetery in the near future.
