Posted: Updated:

Heidi Heitkamp will work along side Senator John Hoeven for the next four years.

the two senators representing North Dakota have different party affiliations but Hoeven says they'll have to work together to get things done.

He says that he has already reached out to Heitkamp and congratulated her on her accomplishment.

Senator John Hoeven, R- North Dakota, "I congratulated her she was very gracious she talked to me about working with her on health care things and I talked to her about working with me on some energy issues legislation that's the way it's supposed to work that's what we need to do."

Hoeven says North Dakota is an energy Powerhouse. He says the president needs to work with congress to help the country reach energy independence.

Senator John Hoeven R- North Dakota, " I hope he'll reach out to the congress and work with us on all these big issues I'm talking about energy we can be energy independent in this country in five to seven years we can do the same thing at the national level we've done here in North Dakota but we need the president to work with us."

Hoeven has been senator for two years.

Heitkamp starts her six year term as Senator in January.
