Minot Adds to School Wall of Fame

Posted: Updated:

The Minot High School Wall of Fame is greater by two today.

Wally Hankla and Gary Thune were honored for continued service and outstanding MHS alumni.

Hankla graduated from Minot High in 1948 --- followed by Thune, a graduate of 1960.

Both men went on to the University of North Dakota to become attorneys and worked together to become founding members of the North Dakota Council of School Attorneys.

Hankla says over the years they have watched student and teacher rights evolve into today's classroom setting.

(Gary Thune, MHS Wall of Fame Inductee) "It's truly a privilege and an honor to come back to high school after, well it was 1960 when I graduated. It's a treat and I feel honored."

(Walfrid "Wally" Hankla, MHS Wall of Fame Inductee) "Never the foggiest notion that I would ever be involved in anything like this. So I guess I'd say I'm not only honored, I'm kind of proud of it."

The MHS Wall of Fame was established in 2007 and honors both outstanding alumni and staff.

New members are inducted during even number years, alternating with the MHS Athletic Hall of Fame.
