Abandoned Home Break Ins

Posted: Updated:

Many homes throughout the valley still sit vacant after last years flood.

Unfortunately, varmints and thieves alike see this as an open invitation.

While copper theft from these abandoned homes may not be as prevalent now as it was this past summer, local law enforcement say it hasn't gone away.

Looters have also left behind evidence of making these homes their own.

So what can you do about it?

Be vigilant...

Officials say if you are a home owner, board up your home and make sure it's secure.

Others are asked to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity in or around the abandoned homes.

(Chief Jason Olson - Minot PD) "Having it secure is going to keep people out and having the neighbors that are around keep an eye on it if they see any suspicious activity to give us a call when they see it. Every once in a while we get a report that we saw somebody in the home the night before. That really doesn't do us any good. We like people to call when the see suspicious activity, call us while it's occurring."

If you see any suspicious activity in or around an abandoned home, you are asked to call your local law enforcement agency.
