McLean County Sheriff Don Charging says at least 19 of his deputies responded to a Signal 100 around 4:30 Sunday afternoon.
He says most people in law enforcement understand the signal's nature of emergency and immediacy.
Highway patrol troopers also responded in Mountrail's neighboring county.
Charging says they had deputies staked out at major intersections, on the lookout for a certain vehicle, a black SUV.
Charging says his deputies made around five patrol stops during their surveillance patrol.
He says the signal 100 was called off around 7:30 p.m.
