Shopping Small on Saturday

Posted: Updated:

Black Friday is coming to a close, which has us looking for the next big event.

How about shopping small?

Small business Saturday is gaining momentum across the country, drawing the attention from the big bargain buys, to a hometown touch.

For example: while you're shopping Main Street Velva, be sure to stop in at the Quilted Bean.

With the population increase, the Quilted Bean is growing in activity.

Celebrating a five year business anniversary in March, manager Heather Tudor says the holidays start slow in a small business and ease into busy after the big stores open with a bang.

(Heather Tudor, Quilted Bean Manager) "It helps bring in some customers and it lets people know what we do here and brings in more business of course."

A few Saturday specials you'll find at the Quilted Bean include a chance to sign up for a $25 gift certificate when you bring a friend.

Completed quilts are discounted, fabric is 20 percent off on kits and when you buy one yard of fabric, you get ten fat squares free without a limit.

Or just stop by to warm up, every sandwich comes with a free soup or coffee tomorrow at the Quilted Bean in Velva.
