Hit and Run Leads to Fatal Accident

Posted: Updated:

A hit and run property damage accident on Broadway Wednesday night just before midnight ended in a dramatic crash that left the driver dead, and officials trying to piece together what exactly happened.

Minot Police say the 34-year-old Ward County driver struck another vehicle on Broadway...and kept driving.

He ended up speeding on 11th Avenue SE when he passed an officer near Rosehill Cemetery.

By the time that officer started to pursue -- the end of the incident was just moments away.

It ended here.

The driver went flying off this drop-off -- and over this narrow coulee -- landing clear on the other side of it.

He was pronounced dead on the scene by medical personnel who responded...

(Lt. Scot Redding - Minot Police Department) "There is an accident reconstruction to some degree. We won't be able to, given the dynamics of the actual accident, I don't know if we will be able to tell exactly the speed or anything like that. With the vehicle flying through the air that really changes the dynamics of the crash itself."

It is not known if alcohol was involved with the accident -- and the investigation into it still continues.
