Decorating for Charity

Posted: Updated:

Spreading Christmas cheer is as easy as an extra layer of frosting.

The bakers at Marketplace Foods took the day to decorate gingerbread houses for the Domestic Violence Crisis Center.

Customers stopped to watch the wafer chimneys take shape, and the M&M shingles get pasted into icing icicles.

In year's past, the department has created a life-size gingerbread house.

Manager Nyla Stromberg says that due to a lack of space, they stuck to smaller gingerbread houses this year --- but that makes them easier to share.

(Nyla Stromberg, Marketplace Foods Cake Department Manager) "We've decided on Domestic Violence. To help make somebody's day happy there. If we can give back to the community there, that would be an awesome thing for us."

Stromberg says it's great to spend the work day doing something fun because happy people make happy cakes.
