Three of Five Escaped Juveniles Are Captured

Posted: Updated:

Authorities have captured three of five boys who escaped Monday from the Youth Correctional Center in Mandan.

At about noon in Fargo today, Police say they followed a mini-van they noticed driving erratically coming off the interstate.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, and the mini-van crashed into a mailbox, then ran over a tree-- disabling the vehicle.

The teenagers took off on foot, but were later caught.

(DALE BOEDDEKER\Homeowner) "Just heard the noise and saw them bail out of the vehicle, and running across the yard.

Lt. Joel Vettel/ Fargo Police: one of those situations where officers did the right thing.

were able to get to the area, locate the vehicle, made the good choice not to escalate the situation any further than it was."

The other two teens are considered violent and dangerous.

The 3 captured are being returned to Mandan, and will face additional charges.

Police say the teens escaped YCC Monday after they assaulted a corrections officer and stole his car.

The vehicle was later found abandoned in Minot.

The corrections officer was not seriously injured.
