Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) December 19, 2012

Brush of Truth, an interactive book app for kids 8-12, was named a 2012 Media of the Year winner in Creative Child Magazine’s 2012 Holiday Toy & Baby Guide. The $1.99 app was created by Story Bayou, a mom’s vision to get tweens to read. Brush of Truth is available on iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, Kindle Fire, Google Play (Android) and Windows 7.

The app won the top award in the Interactive Book App category in the national magazine’s Creative Toy Awards. It is included in the toy guide’s “Best of the Year” section on apps and media.

Brush of Truth was released by Story Bayou, founded by Julie Landry Laviolette, a writer and mom of a fifth- and seventh-grader. The app tells the story of two tweens who find an enchanted paintbrush made by a medieval sorcerer. A cross between an eBook and a game, the app lets the user choose what happens next in the story. Brush of Truth has 125 pages of story and illustrations, with 65 decision points and 20 possible endings.

The app also has been named a “Recommended iPad Book App for Older and Reluctant Readers Ages 8-12” by Digital Storytime, and one of “6 Interactive Book Apps to Get Kids Excited About Reading” by Tecca. Brush of Truth recently received a five-star rating from Technology in Education.

Free Common Core-aligned lesson plans are available for Brush of Truth at StoryBayou.com/teachers.

“We are honored to have this recognition from Creative Child Magazine,” said Laviolette, who wrote Brush of Truth. “Brush of Truth is about getting kids into reading, using the technology they love. Book apps like this help kids stick with reading material because they love the interaction with the story.”

Creative Child Magazine's Awards Program brought together more than 100 moms, educators and early education professionals to review products at a two-day event in Henderson, Nevada. Products are given scores based on multiple reviews on the criteria of nurturing creativity and education in children.

Mom Julie Landry Laviolette, a longtime journalist and writer, founded Story Bayou to develop interactive book apps for tweens. Brush of Truth, released in Feb. 2012, has been recognized nationally for its appeal to reluctant readers. For information about Brush of Truth, visit StoryBayou.com.
