Texas Hold 'em Tournament Coming

Posted: Updated:

New Year's Eve is right around the corner.
How would you like to start the new year with $45,000 in your pocket?
Win the 9th annual North Dakota State Texas Hold'em Championship and that could be a reality.
In fact, you don't even have to be the champion to walk away with a little extra cash.
$149,000 will be given away to winners during the four-day poker tournament.
The Vegas Motel started hosting the event in 2004 and this year, event planners are expecting over 1200 players.
A $150 registration fee guarantees two plays and winners will advance to the championship hand dealt on New Year's Eve.
Coordinator Wendy Rupert says the tournament is for everyone ages 21 and up, and you don't have to be a pro.
(Wendy Rupert, The Vegas Motel General Manager) "It takes a little bit of luck, it takes a little bit of skill, it takes the stars in the right alignment. We're looking for a new champion or a repeat champion so we invite everyone to come out and join us this year."
All the proceeds of the tournament go to the Minot State University Alumni Association fund for marketing students.
If you're not sure of your luck, The Vegas Motel is still the place to be during the Texas Hold 'em Championship.
(Wendy Rupert, The Vegas Motel General Manager) "We encourage spectators to come out. If they have not seen a live poker tournament, it is pretty exciting and pretty fun. Especially on New Year's Eve when the champion is crowned, we have confetti flying and everyone is excited. And there's quite a lot of money out there on the tables to be won. It's a good time. Come watch."
Early-registration is best, but players can register anytime through the end of the free-roll on December 28th at 10 p.m.
