Business Beat - December 27

Posted: Updated:

Daycare options in the Minot area will be increasing in the new year -- certainly good news for many parents struggling to find a spot. Little Flower School has been rebuilt following the flood...and now the bottom level will be taken over by Magic City Day Care with room eventually for more than 60 kids. Additional staff will have to be hired, but the space is now leased and ready to go...in fact toys are now starting to arrive! An official ribbon cutting is set for Saturday morning.

At Dakota Square Mall, 2013 will bring change to the JCPenney Court. Gideon's Trumpet will be leaving the mall...and relocating to downtown Minot. Taking that spot at the Mall will be Famous Footwear. That will be a return to Dakota Square for the shoe company -- watch for that change in the late spring of 2013.

In Surrey, What was once known as the Bottoms Up Lounge has undergone a transformation...with more to come. Josh Ressler and four others purchased the bar earlier this year...and changed the name to 501 Grill and Bar last month. Why the change? Because it better describes what they offer. Gone is a simple town bar...in its place, a spot to have a tasty meal...

"We need to become a destination place...we hand patty our burgers, make our own buns...we have lots of combinations of burgers that you can do and I think that we have the best burger in town. I have heard that from people who come out to eat."

Ressler says more menu items will be added in 2013 in Surrey. With Business Beat, I'm Perry Olson.
