Tribe Gets Riverboat Gambling Permit

The Three Affiliated Tribes have signed a compact with the state to allow riverboat gambling on Lake Sakakawea.

Five tribal groups signed compacts with the governor yesterday and the deal with the Mandan-Hidatsa-Arikira Tribes allows gaming on the waters of the lake.

Tribal Chairman Tex Hall has said he wants the riverboat to have ports at all six communities of the reservation with its home port being at the Four Bears Casino just west of New Town.

Two other tribal governments have riverboat gambling permits - the Standing Rock Sioux signed its deal yesterday, while the Spirit Lake Sioux previously signed a compact for the water-based gambling.
