Animals are Cold Too

Posted: Updated:

With the arrival of winter, dog owners need to be aware of how to keep their canine friends comfortable and safe during the dog days of winter.

Souris Valley Animal Shelter Manager Kristine Seabolt puts it this way: if it is too cold for you outside, it is too cold for your dog.
Here are some tips to keep your pet safe this winter:
Allow your pet easy access to shelter that is insulated.
Several pet and feed stores carry safe heated floor mats but hay works just as well.
Also make sure your pet's water is not frozen.
Heated pet bowls are the solution to frigid temperatures.
Taking these few precautionary steps will help ensure the safety of our pets during the winter season.

(Kristine Seabolt, Shelter Manager, Souris Valley Animal Shelter. Minot) "They are just not able to protect themselves. They can't come up to you and indicate to you that they obviously can't feel their legs or toes anymore so we need to be able to think about that and always be aware of that."
