Bright Lights Business approves of recent fund-raisers seen around New York as celebrities and locals come together to help those whose lives were greatly affected by Hurricane Sandy.
New York, NY (PRWEB) January 19, 2013
BLB released a statement approving of the variety show, Shame On Sandy, or SOS as it was dubbed, held in the Meatpacking District this past week that saw top names in the entertainment and food industries come together to show off their skills and raise more than $42,000.
The SOS event was an old-fashioned variety show, with well known celebrities singing, slinging arrows, readings and of course some offering up some comedic relief. The hit of the night was Anthony Bourdain and Eric Ripert providing blindfolded food tastings that saw Bourdain nail every wine while Ripert struggled with some American-born flavors.
Bright Lights Business is warmed by the continued support celebrities and New Yorkers continue to show their neighbors affected by Sandy. Organized by New York author and photographer Melanie Dunea the variety show drew about 400 people from the hospitality and creative industries.
Sandy caused major flooding and power outages at the end of October as it made landfall in the New York area, which resulted in major damages to many houses and businesses as well as dozens of deaths. Mark Birnbaum drives the Meatpacking District as a hot spot for New York nightlife, restaurants and shopping thanks to their vision for inviting atmospheres and trends.
New York continues to rally around those still reeling in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. The latest fund-raiser saw those in the restaurant and entertainment industries come together to perform in a variety show that raised more than $42,000. With old-fashioned performances ranging from comedy to song the SOS event raised money and awareness as well as a sense of community for those involved.
