County Plans for New Construction

Posted: Updated:

Expansion is coming in Minot.

The Ward County Commissioners meeting proved that today as the discussion was focused primarily on the new administrative building, jail expansion and the remodeling of the courthouse.

The special meeting covered funding options, possible parking sites, and architectural plans.

The council is interested in a short term lease-back program as a funding option for construction.

Members of the Board of Commissioners voiced interest in a six to seven year contract.

The potential parking situation was cause for a lengthy discussion during the meeting.

Parking sites the council have looked into are the Minot Daily News lot, CP Rail and Morgan Printing.

As one member of the commission explained, the time is now to decide on the parking situation.

(Shelly Weppler, Ward County Commissioner) "We don't have any place to put the staging equipment, in addition to all the parking that has happened right there. So I think that we need to move and be able to start speaking because it's not only happening here it is happening in our downtown area as well."

The construction is proposed to begin in June of this year.
