Mail Theft Cases Increasing

Posted: Updated:

An investigation is underway concerning several reports of mail theft, forgery, and credit card fraud.

The incidents started earlier this week and are continuing.

The Minot Police Department have had several reports of mail theft in private mail boxes in which letters containing bills with checks and credit card numbers are being targeted.

Various checks have been altered and cashed and personal information such as account numbers have been used to make illegal transactions.

Police advise to use caution when placing letters to be mailed in private mailboxes and recommend dropping utility bills off at the location.

(Detective Cassidy Halseth, Minot Police Department) "One victim of this is too much and we are up to a dozen confirmed for sure so the more we can stop this the better. The more we can get this out to the public the more they can start protecting their personal information and their property."

Police continue to pursue any and all leads and if you have any information, you can call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 852-7463. Information leading to an arrest may result in a cash reward of up to one-thousand dollars.
