Character Winners

Posted: Updated:

It's an annual event that shines a light on kids in Minot who have excelled in an area everyone can benefit from -- character.

Just underway a few minutes ago at Minot State University is the American Youth Character Awards Banquet.

23 kids from Minot Public, Bishop Ryan, and Our Redeemers are being honored for the good character they have developed and displayed in their lives.

Jim Vitko is an organizer of the program.

He says in its almost 20 years of existence, Character Counts has had a great impact on the city...and it can be seen by the quality kids who are getting awards tonight.

(Jim Vitko - Character Counts) "This year we had probably more nominations than we have ever had which was a pleasant surprise to see the number going up. Kind of unique in its own way from the point of looking at the wonderful and good things that kids are doing in the community, as well as community members also."

In fact, it isn't just kids -- but five community members will be receiving awards this evening as well for their work in the region.
