U.S. Chamber of Commerce President: Free Market Determines Development

Posted: Updated:

Everywhere you look, there's new construction -- hotels, restaurants, homes.
Even in a good economy, how does an area know when to say "when" to new development?

Tom Donohue, President & CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, has an answer:  "Well, first of all, this is a free market economy, and that means, there are three things that have to be a part of that economy:  People have to be free to speak and debate and argue about what they think should be done in a city or in a state.  Second, people have to be able to take a risk."

Third, Donohue says, you have to celebrate success -- which is why the U.S. Chamber President is in North Dakota.  Donohue says what he's seen and heard in this State convinces him bipartisan, public-private sector, responsible energy policy is possible.

He says it's a message he'll be taking back to Washington.
