MAFB Economic Impact

Posted: Updated:

We see the bombers overhead and drive by the missile sites, but do we really understand the reach of Minot Air Force Base in our region?

Today, base number crunchers had details on the economic impact of the facility on all of us.

Their report said the Minot Air Force Base contribution to the economy is higher than ever at more than a half-billion dollars.

(Maj. Jorge Jimenez, MAFB Comptroller) "The bottom line impact of 2012 is almost $140 million more than 2008."

(Pete Hankla, Chamber of Commerce Task Force 21) "As we can all see, in excess of a half billion dollars - a tremendous impact on our community and obviously a vital part of our community."

(Bruce Walker, Chamber of Commerce Task Force 21) "Will all the diversion of the other types of economic activity going on in Minot, we still have the base as one of the key parts of it."

Base officials say there are 55-hundred active duty personnel at the Minot Air Force Base.
