Zoo Wolves Get Names

Posted: Updated:

The two newest additions to the Roosevelt Park Zoo received names today.

Denali and Luna are female Gray wolves, also known as Timberwolves.

They are each about one year old.

The two will be on display along with Gauge, the lone male wolf, when the zoo opens back up in may.

The young wolves were recently welcomed into their habitat.

Because of the volunteer work of Enbridge Pipelines employees, zoo officials allowed the company to vote on a list of names for the two wolves.

Approximately 75 volunteers donated over 600 hours to help, but it was the entire community that was instrumental in the zoo's rebuilding efforts.

(Jennifer Fry, Education Coordinator, Roosevelt Park Zoo) "This community loves its zoo and that is readily apparent in the volunteers we've had come out. Readily apparent in the donations we've received. We just want the community to know, we honor their commitment and we are doing everything we can to make them proud."

Fry says warthogs will be the next animals brought back to the zoo

Opening date is May 4th.
