Dickinson Airport Anticipates Arrival of Regional Jet Service

Posted: Updated:

Just days ago, there were two big announcements for the Dickinson area.

A diesel refinery will be built just west of town, offering potentially hundreds of jobs...

And, the airport is adding more flights from different airlines.

In June, you can fly to Minneapolis and Denver through United and Delta airlines.

More businesses are taking off in and around the Dickinson area, and it starts at the airport.

Right now, there are four-round trips to Denver offered through Great Lakes Aviation.

But the Dickinson airport is soon getting regional jet service through United and Delta.

That means more trips to Denver and now Minneapolis, in bigger planes and with faster flights.

"We're going to go from where I started, around 5,000 passengers/year to next year anticipating 50 and 70,000 with additional service." says Matthew Remynse/Airport manager

A boom in business that is not uncommon in oil country, but a needed service for the growing area.

"I'm used to flying LAX, I fly six times a month so I've kind of been all over the US, this is one of the smallest I've been to." says Aaron Capps/Los Angeles, CA.

"I think it'll be very good for the town, it's a competitive business, I fly Delta a lot so that would be good for me." says Laurel Jensen/Utah.

"We have developers coming in, oil-related companies coming in, they all need good air service, plus we have the community that has stuck by this airport for many, many years." says Remynse.

Change is a' coming.

Airport workers need to build ramp access for the two regional jets, to remodel the terminal, adding two more ticket counters, office space, and two modular buildings for passengers and baggage.

"Right now we can handle about 50 bags/flight, we could jump up to 150--just don't have the space to put them." says Remynse.

More space for more traffic.

In June last year ,they had around 2,000 passengers, this June, they're expecting around 6,000.

"It's really a new era for the airport to have regional jet service. says Remynse.

Airport managers say they don't know the future of Great Lakes at this time, but new airlines will offer some competition.

You can already buy flight tickets through United to Denver.

Today, tickets were $359 round-trip.

According to the airport's master plan, they will build a brand new runway and terminal in the next five years.

United flights start June 6th--you can already buy those tickets.

Delta flights start June 10th--you can buy those tickets online starting February 23rd.
