Bismarck Residents Voice Their Opinions About Curbside Recycling

Posted:

Bismarck residents get the chance to voice their opinions on whether or not the city should have curbside recycling.

Nearly 40 people stepped up to the microphone at tonight's City Commission meeting.

Adopting curbside recycling in the community would cost residents about $3.50 a month.

Those in favor of the idea say it's time consuming and costly to drive to the recycling trailers setup across the city, and having recycling picked up at their curb would be convenient.

"This is the easiest method for residents by far it is state of the art and the only thing easier than this is to not recycle at all and we know that will have consequences for our landfill."

Many of those against the idea complained about the size of the recycling container.

"We have no room for another 95 or 96 gallon container in the driveway or the garage, I don't have room for another one, I don't know where I'm going to put it, I can't put it in the backyard because I'll never get it through the snow."

The city commission did adopt a motion that will allow residents to opt out if they wish.

Meaning they would not have to pay the fee each month and would not be forced to participate.

Further discussion and decisions are expected at the next Bismarck City Commission Meeting.
