Oil and gas production rebounds in a big way following a challenging November in North Dakota.
The latest numbers released show a both hit an all-time high with oil production close to 769-thousand barrels-per-day.
The number of producing wells also hit an all-time high at 8-thousand-two-hundred-twenty-four.
More good news could be just around the corner.
At a recent meeting some larger producers talked about plans for 2013.
"There are a number of them that plan to add drilling rigs in the second quarter of this year. The total number from those meetings is 15 so that does put us right at 200 drilling rigs in the 2nd and 3rd quarter of this year is our expectation but of course things can always change," says the director of the Department of Mineral Resources Lynn Helms.
Helms says the economics have been good for oil companies. He says there hasn't been a dry hole for well over a year. The success ratio is 90% for companies turning at least a 10% rate of return.
Policy think tank AEI says the state's December oil production increased by over 43% from a year earlier.
