Abused and Neglected Horses are Getting Adopted Across the State

Posted: Updated:

Eighty horses find their forever homes this weekend.

Sunday, "Scratches" gets to move out to her new home east of Bismarck.

Owner Lynda Sue Dschaak said she wasn't planning on adopting a horse.

But after volunteering with Scratches, she couldn't leave her behind.

"I came out to help one day and she just stole my heart," said Lynda Sue Dschaak.

119 rescue horses have called Triple H Miniature Horse Rescue their home since they were rescued from a ranch in Morton and Burleigh counties this January.

Rescue owner Allison Smith put out the call for adoption on Facebook as soon as she got the go-ahead from the sheriff.

She was amazed at the response, but says watching them go is bittersweet.

"I'm glad they are leaving and finding homes, but now we've had them for a couple of weeks and it kind of makes me sad to see them go. But obviously, that's what we want, for them to find homes. And they did. So we're really, really happy about that," says Allison Smith of Triple H Miniature Horse Rescue.

Smith says 22 horses will remain in their care until they are healthy enough to be adopted.

She expects them to be up for adoption by mid-summer.
