Zumba Dancers Step Up to Benefit Boy Battling Leukemia

Posted: Updated:

Many people may still be sore from an intense weekend workout session at Gold's Gym.

But along with getting stronger, one group of zumba dancers has strengthened support for a four year old boy in Seattle.

Enough to keep one dancer in particular--motivated.

"It's hot and dark but it's nice, people that are scared to zumba wear dark clothes nobody will see you, and if you want to stand out you wear bright clothes." says Brienna Schwab, Gold's Gym trainer.

It may look like just a fun group workout, but inside this black-light zumba party, a motivational story is revealed.

"We were just in there dancing, you can hear the hoops and the hollars, when you're getting tired in the back of your mind, it's like, there's a little kid somewhere who is literally not able to sit up so." says Kristin Wentz-Krumwiede.

Four-year-old Hunter Schwab is currently at a Ronald McDonald House, but his aunt--Gold's Gym trainer Bri Schwab, says he will have to go back to the hospital because the chemo is not going as planned.

One of Brienna's clients has really stepped up.

"When they found out about Hunter's diagnosis, she was like Kristin, I'm like okay what do you want to know... I can tell you the 15-year-old version of it." says Kristin Wentz-Krumwiede/Leukemia survivor.

Kristin was 15 when she was diagnosed.

"Bri is actually my trainer at Gold's...but myself I'm a 17 year survivor of the same kind of leukemia that Hunter has." says Kristin.

Although she still suffers some long-term effects...

"I have some metabolic issues... I have some circulation issues because of some of medications, but in the end, I'll take some numb fingers and toes over not being here any day." says Kristin.

Her story of survival is an amazing thing for everyone--including Hunter's brother Conner--to see.

"We're making ourselves healthier, we're raising funds for Hunter and we're just bringing more awareness to the fact that it's out there...Leukemia and cancer in little kids is something no one talks about, until you know of that person, we need to realize it's out there, because it can be silent." says Kristin.

CK Auto is matching whatever donations were made at the zumba fundraiser.
