Spelling Bee

Posted: Updated:

The top spellers in Ward County have been named --- two sixth graders!

Madeline Rickert and Rylee Peltier took their seats among 20 finalists from around the county.

One hour later, a champion was named.

Madeline Rickert is a sixth grader at Ramstad Middle School sealed the first place title with the word, 'babushka.'

After a lighting round for second place, 6th grader Rylee Peltier of Sawyer School will be the second Ward County representative at state.

To win, our contestants say it takes both practice, and a life-long love of reading.

(Madeline Rickert, 1st Place, Ramstad 6th Grade) "SpellingBee.com. You can take these tests. There are 450 base words and 1100 challenge words and foreign language words."

(Rylee Peltier, 2nd Place, Sawyer 6th Grade) "I started reading young so I could spell a lot of words at a young age."

Madeline and Rylee will represent Ward County at the ND State Spelling Bee in Bismarck on March 22.
