Romesha Honored at State Capitol by Dalrymple

Posted:

A soldier awarded the Medal of Honor is honored today at North Dakota's State Capitol during a reception given by the Governor and First Lady.

Former U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Clinton Romesha was awarded the nation's highest military award for valor -- the Medal of Honor -- on February 11th by President Obama at the White House.  Romesha received the honor for his actions in Afghanistan on October 3, 2009.

"In the years to come, as I look at this Medal and fondly reflect on all the kindness shown to me and my family, I will think of my fellow soldiers that were with me in Afghanistan, and not able to make it here today.  I'll also think of the wonderful events like this one and think of great Americans like you," Romesha said at the event.

The fire fight in 2009 pitted over 300 Taliban against fewer than 60 American soldiers.  Eight of Romesha's fellow soldiers died that day.

The 31-year-old Romesha lives in Minot, North Dakota, with his wife and three children.
